on August 6th. and requesting me to fix a day for a joint
enquiry into the case.
A few days later the junk owner came to the Con-
sulate, and as his account of the occurrence was by no
meens clear and he was unable to give any information
as to the present hereabouts of the steamer he was dir-
ected to file a prtition giving full particulars.
Undor the circumstances no reply was sent to the
Viceroy's despatch, but is 'ajesty's Vice Consul informe
me that he told one of the Viceroy's Secretarios,
who
called on him in reference to another collision case,

that this matter was receiving our attention.
Ho petition was put in by the junkmaster and nothing
more was heard of the matter until November 1st., when the
Viceroy sent another despatch calling my attention to the
fact that this case had not yet bon dealt with, and again
asking ma to fix a date for a joint investigation.
I at once replied pointing out that the plaintiff
had not yet presented his petition at this office,
